I did it!

I reached 7000 (in fact 7003). I decided to quit with that ranking so it could record on here, but none the less i am pretty happy. Now i need some work before i can go up against the good ones on this site, but hey hopefully i will improve.

I have had a couple of matches against people on this site. I had a a game or two against Millar TC (on 4-player), but he beat me many more. Very good, i read his blog and he was extremely good, like i expected.

But the one that i remember and run into fairly often is cosmonaut, needless to say i lost a few of those matches too, but pulled out a couple of wins. Those were some fun games. See you all later

Hey math can help!

2006-07-05 17:01:59

So I was thinking about how fast the pieces stack up when you have more than one column that needs an I piece. Before i explained that you should not let yourself be to determined to clear your Tetris in one place, but as we all know there should be only one place to require a tetris peice. Meaning every hole should have two or less pieces to fill it in fully. Except, of course, the one you plan to get a tetris with.

So i started to throw some numbers in there to solve about when should we get I pieces.

Ok lets look at the facts
1. Each piece contains 4 little blocks
2. There are 10 little blocks in a row
3. For a Tetris there must be at leat 4 high by 9 wide
4. According to colour_thief the generator gives us all 7 pieces in a random order.

So if you leave one open in order to set up a tetris you must have (9*4)=36 small pieces are needed before one Tetris can be set up

36/4= 9 so by those odds in 9 pieces you should have at least one I piece (at least in an average scenario)

Lets say you set it up so you need two I pieces to get one Tetris, so it requires that you will have to go through about 14 pieces until you can get one Tetris.

But how how will it stack? 14-2(straight pieces)=12
12*4= 48 (little pieces) 48/8 (pieces across the bottom)= 6 rows up.

By having one I piece needed you can only have 4 lines (less than, actually) before you get the I piece for the tetris. That is much better then needing 6 and barley getting the two I pieces.

So now that you got to think again, (its like were back in school!) i hope i jogged your memory, proved something interesting about Tetris and showed that math can help, when necessary. :)

Ever Wondered

2006-06-28 12:32:14

So I always used to laugh when people refer to Murphy's Law. Then i played Tetris DS on WiFi and i must say. ITS TRUE! It seems that if and when you misdrop a piece it will always go in the worst possible position. You hold a straight piece and the piece you get back, is even worse! When you need a straight line to finish some one off or to get a Tetris and move yourself to the bottom it is inevitable that the I will not come!

So now that I'm done complaining I want to give a quick piece of advice to anyone who reads this. Dont get to boggeled down with one place to make a Tetris. That means if you are dedicated to get a Tetris on the far right but you stack up to many pieces from the left, dont be afraid to switch your tetris side to the left. I now that explains nothing so i will try to illustarte it

You would need two I pieces to get your tetris on the right, but if you simply use an L piece you can save yourself the trouble and an I piece.

Another Cheater out!

2006-06-20 15:09:52

So i was playing Tetris DS today trying to improve my rating, hopefully finnaly beat that 7000 barrier that i have been so close to, then i ran into a person by the name of Goury (with some symbols afterwards) and i will tell you guys, he had somehow found a way to make it so my game had no I pieces. (Im not even sure if that is possible). I kid you not 15 games and not a sinle I piece and therfore not a single Tetris. I was able to take 5 by getting Triples and Doubles but for the most part he was able to beat me(He was allowed I pieces by the way). But i kid you not, through 15 games, i had not a single I piece.

I was trying to get my Web Cam set up and record it, but when it was installing (i was trying to get it on a different computer), he had left on me.

So i just want to warn you all of a cheater out there name Goury (or something like that). If you go up against him then just leave before the game starts. Like you would against.... well i really cant say his name, well just say it starts with an F and is not a good word.

Hi Everybody

2006-06-01 22:51:03

Well, I have never tried these blogs ever, but becasue Tetris is such an awsome game, I will give it a try. So after reading a lot of good information from tetrisconcept.com, i got inspired to give my own personal advice to Tetris players. My ranking is not high, but i like to think it is all right.

So, i was trying to think of the most important piece of advice on Tetris online i would say, clear lines. But i think you all know that, so what i would suggest you do, is always keep your cool. Yeah, you all know what im talking about. Whether you punch a pillow, grunt angrily, tense up, or slam your DS to the groud (I have not done that, but i think it could be trouble) it can pretty much hurt your performance on Tetris. I commonly find myself not following this rule. When i dont, it is really a problem. I tend to drop pieces in the wrong place and not make logical moves. If you find yourself doing that, sit back, take a deep breath and just relax. Focus on the game and dont try to hard to destroy your enemy. Because chances are, on the other side of that game, they are relaxed and winning the match easily.

When your relax, the game really becomes easier, that way, you can have minimal skill like me, but still win matches!

But if you run into a hacker, this really doesnt work at all, in that case, dissconnect, then relax!
